If you’re anything like me, you love supporting local farmers and producers whenever you can. You appreciate that nothing compares to the taste and quality of something that has been grown nearby and picked within days of eating. The idea of spending the morning at the farmers market, selecting the best and freshest produce, meats, cheeses, and bakery items brings you joy, but a busy life and complicated schedule keep you from getting there regularly. As a result, you end up buying way too much tasteless supermarket produce, which causes you to buy a lot less produce and eat a lot less produce.
This is me. I want to buy local because it’s a far superior product, across the board. I want to teach my son the importance of good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle. I also notice the decreasing amount of farmland that we have, as our suburban surroundings become more and more developed. AND, not least of all, I also want to eat the tastiest food! So, while I love the farmers market, it never fails; Saturdays come and go in frantic, overly-scheduled flashes, and each week, I think, “NEXT week I’ll get there!” I needed a new plan and Doorstep Dairy has become my answer! If you live in Chester, Lancaster, or Berks Counties, it may be the answer you’re looking for, too!
The process of filling out a Home Delivery Application to open an account and starting weekly home deliveries was simple, satisfying, and fit into my budget. You can click here https://doorstepdairy.com/how-it-works/home-delivery to see if you live in their Delivery Area. If you do, then setting up an account just a matter of giving some quick information and then start building your Standing Order! Your Standing Order is what you think you will want every week (you can always add things or change things later). After you submit all of the information, you will receive a welcome email with a link to activate the account. It also notifies you when your first delivery day will be. Your order will be delivered on the same day each week. If you don’t think you’ll be home to receive your delivery, you need to provide either a cooler or milk box for the more perishable items (Doorstop Dairy also has really cute milk boxes available for purchase).
For my Standing Order, I selected the Large Farm Share, because I’m ambitious and we’re trying to eat more veggies these days. It consists of 8 or more different varieties of vegetables primarily sourced from local farms. They were able to accommodate my strange squash allergy and make sure to give me a substitute any time squash is in the mix. I also added a fruit box to my order, which usually has 3 different kinds of fruit in each week’s box that is sourced from local growers as is seasonably possible. Finally, for my house, I know that I need milk on any given day, so a gallon rounds out my standing order, which totals $61, meaning that I get free delivery! Any orders $60 or over are delivered free (there is a $6.95 delivery charge for orders under $60).
It’s easy to change my order from week to week; that way, I can make sure I have what I need delivered and stay within my budget. So far, I’ve added a couple of extra things each week to my standing order. Usually it’s eggs or other dairy items, but I didn’t miss the opportunity to add bacon! One week, in the interest of science, I changed my standing order to compare the Regular Farm Share (pictured below) to my usual Large Farm Share (pictured in the featured image above). While I think it’s probably more suitable size for our family of 3, I have found that over the weeks, the more fresh produce that we have in the house, the more fresh produce we eat. Every item that I have had has been fresh, vibrant, and flavorful! What’s also great is that I get a reminder email the morning before delivery day that also has a list of last minute items that can be added to the next day’s delivery. I can also skip as many deliveries as I like and I pay for only the deliveries that I have received.
I have so much fun going out to the milk box each week to get my delivery and opening the boxes of fruit and vegetables to see what’s in them, like it’s Christmas morning! I practically dance around the kitchen as I admire and put away the bounty! The exciting news is that they will be continuing delivery of Farm Shares through the winter! I’m also looking forward to trying some of their other items, like meat, cheeses, heat & eat items, snacks, breads, pastries, and other baked goods.
It’s a great time to try home delivery from Doorstep Dairy because, for the rest of the year new customers can get free delivery on the first 3 orders as well as milk at $4/gallon and $2/half-gallon by using the coupon code: milk2019. You can also gift deliveries to someone in the delivery area by contacting Daryl and set up an account with a credit for a specific dollar amount or putting a credit card on file. You can give the lucky recipient their login info in a card, then all they need to do is log in and schedule deliveries. It’s been such a game changer for me! I think you’re going to love it just as much as I do!
Happy Eating!
